WFPB Movies & Books for Whole Plant Health

WFPB Movies To Inspire My New Dietstyle

My first suggestion for WFPB Movies would be the documentary on the matter that we saw first:   “Forks Over Knives“.  “FORKS OVER KNIVES” examines the profound claim that most; if not all; of the so-called “diseases of affluence” that afflict us can be controlled; or even reversed; by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.

The Film

There’s the dvd, books and cookbook, plus it’s available on Amazon and Netflix.

WFPB Movies abound in the recent years.

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” documentary is also good.  Morbidly obese Joe Cross endeavors to drink only fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days in an effort to lose weight, reboot his health, and inspire others along the way.

In Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2, Joe travels around the world and meets with experts who present viable strategies to make and maintain long-term improvements to eating behaviors and overall health.

SuperSize Me

Director Morgan Spurlock’s social experiment in fast-food gastronomy sees him attempting to subsist uniquely on food from the McDonald’s menu for an entire month. In the process his weight balloons, his energy level plummets and experiences all sorts of unexpected — and terrifying — side effects.

“Eating You Alive” New film coming out in June 2016

Eating You Alive is a feature-length documentary revealing the truth behind why Americans are so sick and what we can do about it.

“PlantPure Nation” is new and inspiring as well.
Must see for anyone who struggles with chronic health issues, PlantPure Nation will stand the test of time as the nation, and world, begins to acknowledge that the Standard American Diet is simply not sustainable. You can find out a TON about the film and their unique Pod Program at
 “Processed People: The Documentary

WFPB Books

In addition to WFPB Movies, there are many excellent books to read.

First:  “The China Study” by T Colin Campbell, Ph.D.

In The China Study, Dr. T. Colin Campbell details the connection between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The report also examines the source of nutritional confusion produced by powerful lobbies, government entities, and opportunistic scientists.  I delayed buying this as it sounded potentially dull and dry.  My  actually experience was quite the opposite!

Read also:  Whole:  Rethinking the Science of Nutrition ~ T Colin Campbell, Ph.D.  What happens when you eat an apple? The answer is vastly more complex than you imagine.

Every apple contains thousands of antioxidants whose names, beyond a few like vitamin C, are unfamiliar to us, and each of these powerful chemicals has the potential to play an important role in supporting our health. They impact thousands upon thousands of metabolic reactions inside the human body. But calculating the specific influence of each of these chemicals isn’t nearly sufficient to explain the effect of the apple as a whole. Because almost every chemical can affect every other chemical, there is an almost infinite number of possible biological consequences.

And that’s just from an apple.

Other suggested reading would include any book by Joel Furhman, M.D.  I’ve read them all except the cookbook and his latest book  “The End of Heart Disease“.

Books by Julieanna Hever; The Plant Based Dietitian and Dustin Rudolf; “The Empty Medicine Cabinet”, the Plant Based Pharmacist are excellent.  Add Rip Esselstyn’s “Engine 2 Diet” and”My Beef With Meat”.

Proteinaholic:  How Our Obsession with Meat Is Killing Us and What We Can Do About It ~ Garth Davis, M.D.

An acclaimed surgeon specializing in weight loss delivers a paradigm-shifting examination of the diet and health industry’s focus on protein, explaining why it is detrimental to our health, and can prevent us from losing weight.

Proteinaholic, a good WFPB book

Proteinaholic book

Whether you are seeing a doctor, nutritionist, or a trainer, all of them advise to eat more protein. Foods, drinks, and supplements are loaded with extra protein. Many people use protein for weight control, to gain or lose pounds, while others believe it gives them more energy and is essential for a longer, healthier life. Now, Dr. Garth Davis, an expert in weight loss asks, “Is all this protein making us healthier?”

The answer is NO!

How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease ~ Michael Gerber, M.D.

The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of, examines the fifteen top causes of premature death in America-heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure, and more-and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives.

I could list more books and documentaries here.  and more on animals… such as Cowspiracy.  Some of these animal rights docs can be mildly disturbing. You may be interested in watching youtube videos of Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr., MD,  T Colin Campbell, Ph.D., Neal Barnard, MD, Jeff Novick and other plant based individuals.
